Meeting on 28 February 2012 – A Taxing Question

13 February 2012

Long time Scotch Plains resident Elmer “Pete” Terry will speak on the taxation of the Township of Fanwood (now present day Fanwood and Scotch Plains) at the turn of the twentieth century. He’ll discuss how politicians of the time imposed taxes and supported their organizations. The Treasurer Reports of 1889-1890 & 1891-1892 tell the story of Fanwood Township’s precursor to “The Empire” as the vouchers show where the money flowed.

This “The more things change, the more they stay the same” talk by Pete Terry at the monthly meeting of The Historical Society of Scotch Plains & Fanwood.

The meeting is open and free to everyone. It is held at the Scotch Hills Country Club on Plainfield Avenue and Jerusalem Road in Scotch Plains,  on Tuesday, February 28th at 8:00PM.
