If you can’t remember this song which lifted the spirits of the English, no doubt your grandparents or maybe your parents can. This song was popular in England in the dark days of the Battle of Britain.

Against this background, a history buff whose grandparents’ generation would have experienced WWII will be giving a general overview of the war and its effects on American society at the monthly meeting of the Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood on Tuesday evening March 26th. He has collected the thoughts of townspeople who survived it, having gleamed a lot of information from personal interviews. Ryan Theis is our young history buff. He has resided all his life in Scotch Plains and currently attends Oratory Prep School in Summit. He has been a member of the Historical Society since 2017.

This fascinating program takes place on Tuesday evening March 26th, beginning at 7:30PM, at the Shady Rest Scotch Hills Country Club located at 820 Jerusalem Road (and corner of Plainfield Avenue) in Scotch Plains. It is free and open to all. Please bring your family and friends. Fellowship and refreshments follow the meeting.

Country Club, 820 Jerusalem Rd., Scotch Plains, NJ 07076. Our program is “Youngs Paint and Varnish Company”. We’re lucky to have one of the family members that last helped managed what once was a premier decorating store for this area: Larry Andrews, grandson of the founder of Youngs in 1925. The local high school TV will be filming so we will we be able to have a record in our museum.

You are invited to the Osborn Cannonball House for the free annual open house and Christmas party on Sunday, December 2nd from 2pm to 4pm at 1840 Front Street in Scotch Plains. Join us for hot mulled cider along with goodies to eat. Featured is our Victorian Christmas tree and 1800s winter clothing display. Join us for caroling around our restored 1885 Mason and Hamlin reed pump organ. Costumed guides will conduct tours. The museum will be closed for January and February. It will reopen Sunday, March 3rd in the New Year.
